overheard at b&n
Tonight I had to go to the mall, so I stopped into Barnes & Noble to do some reading and people-watching/eavesdropping. At one point I was sitting near a man who must have been a professor. He was telling the person he was with about a student he has in class. The student is named Ima Prophet. On the first day, I guess he was convinced the girl was pulling his leg, until she said, “Ima...

Now that I have a Roku, my instant Netflix queue is almost as out-of-control as my Netflix DVD queue. (Also, for those who want to celebrate next Wednesday, Groundhog Day is available to watch instantly.)

tonight's agenda
Cook the Amy’s Cheese Pizza with a rice crust that I bought because they were out of the kind with regular crusts. Try to only eat half of it, with a salad. Purchase new coffeemaker before I kill myself from lack of early-morning caffeine. I also need a snow shovel for my car, if stores still have any. Sit in Barnes and Noble for a while reading books and magazines with no intention of...

Dear person who kept spinning his or her tires in the snow right outside my bedroom window several times every five to ten minutes from 5:30 a.m. until 6:30 a.m., I hate you. Also, get a shovel, or some hot water to melt the snow, or someone to push your car. - Me

not cool
I woke up at 7 this morning to discover that work had been “delayed” until 9. (Never mind that that’s the time most people normally get there.) So I was like, “I will walk over to the nearest coffee shop and get a cup of coffee because my machine is broken.” So I put on my boots and coat and left. The plows (yes, they’re actually out) have plowed in all the...

RIP, mr. coffee
The coffee maker I got for my first apartment before my junior year of college has finally bitten the dust. It wasn’t working properly yesterday when I got back from my run. I had set it to brew while I was out. It usually takes about four minutes for one cup; it had been going for about 10 minutes when I got to it, only half a cup had brewed, and the whole machine was really, really hot. ...

I am thinking about starting a “real blog” that I can show people to prove I can write. (I will obviously keep my Tumblr because it is awesome, and because it is the best way to put a bunch of photos and videos and audio files on the internet with little to no thought.) I don’t get to do much writing at my current job, and I have not yet come up with the motivation to do much...

Number of trips requiring air travel, broken down by year: 2001-2007: 0 2008-2010: 3 (Dallas ‘08, San Fran ‘09, Vegas ‘10) 2011: 3 (planned so far - Orlando in February, San Fran/Big Sur in April, Barcelona in June) Granted, all my scheduled trips this year are somewhat (or completely) work-related, but whatever. Fun will still be had.

An exciting feature of the new apartment is that, if I put my GPS watch on the windowsill and turn it on, it picks up the satellites from inside. This means no more standing around outside in my running gear staring at my watch for one to two very long minutes before runs. This is extra convenient in this cold weather. The ol’ Garmin might be getting a lot more use now!
